In-House Substitute Teacher

St. Martin’s Episcopal School is seeking a dependable, flexible, and student-centered In-House Substitute Teacher to provide instructional coverage across all divisions (Early Childhood, Lower School, and Middle School). This full-time role plays a vital part in ensuring continuity of learning and maintaining a stable, supportive classroom environment when faculty members are absent.

Position Overview
The In-House Substitute Teacher works collaboratively with Division Heads and faculty to support students and contribute positively to the daily life and culture of the School. This role requires adaptability, strong classroom management skills, and a commitment to the School’s mission, values, and community life.

Key Responsibilities
Provide daily instructional coverage across all divisions as assigned.
Implement lesson plans provided by classroom teachers.
Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
Supervise students during class periods, transitions, and assigned duties.
Follow School policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.
Communicate professionally with Division Heads and faculty regarding coverage and classroom needs.
Support School activities and events as needed during the academic day.
Maintain an up-to-date calendar of classroom coverage.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred
Experience working with students across multiple age groups strongly preferred
Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to adapt quickly to different classrooms, grade levels, and instructional styles
Work Schedule and Position Status

The role is a 10-month position that follows the school’s academic calendar. The position is paid over a 12-month period and includes typical daily working hours of Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–3:45 p.m. during the academic year. The position joins our faculty as a full-time and benefits-eligible employee. The role is salaried and Exempt per FLSA guidelines.

Physical Requirements

This position is primarily performed indoors and may involve standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
