Description:
The Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing physical education programs tailored to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. This position focuses on promoting physical fitness, motor skills, and social development through individualized and inclusive physical activity. The APE Teacher works collaboratively with general education teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure all students can safely and successfully participate in physical education activities.
Responsibilities:
Assess students with disabilities to determine eligibility for adaptive physical education services.
Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives related to motor development and physical fitness.
Design and deliver adaptive physical education programs that promote participation, safety, and skill acquisition.
Modify and adapt games, equipment, and activities to meet the physical and developmental needs of each student.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, occupational and physical therapists, and other specialists to integrate physical education into broader educational goals.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Adaptive Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
Proficiency in various sports, games, and recreational activities
Ability to coach and motivate students in individual and team sports
Experience in organizing and officiating sports events and competitions
