Cumberland Academy of Georgia specializes in the needs of 4th through 12th grade students with high-functioning Autism, Asperger’s, LD, ADD, and ADHD. The mission of the academy is to provide a safe, supportive, educational environment in partnership with faculty, staff, students, and parents. Our academic and social curriculum encourages the development of life skills essential in becoming independent and self-sufficient adults.
The Dean of Students should be an enthusiastic, student-centered educator who collaborates with the leadership of Cumberland and will be responsible for continuing and developing a vibrant student life program. Other primary responsibilities include overseeing expectations for student conduct, supporting faculty in the academic realm, and helping with classroom management. The Dean of Students should be confident in interactions with teachers and parents, discrete with sound and keen judgment, and an excellent communicator.
Serve as an engaging leader at Cumberland, responsible for aspects of the day-to-day operation - morning announcements, attendance, discipline, lunch, and dismissal.
Collaborate with the leadership team: HOS, AHOS, and Principal in weekly meetings discussing the needs and plans for the school.
Attend level meetings held by Coordinators
Keep behavior management data in the Student Information System, as well as host ISS and Reflective Lunches
Manage Cumberland Extracurricular Programs: EDP, Clubs, etc.
Collaborate with the Innovation Specialist to organize and calendar field trips.
Frequently check in with counselors to understand the social/emotional needs of students around the building.
Lead the development and implementation of a vibrant student life program
Promote established guidelines for proper school conduct and dress; collaborate with faculty to maintain student discipline consistent with school policies; maintain accurate discipline records; and lead yearly reviews of student-focused policies in our Handbook
Regularly communicate with parents regarding student issues and concerns; manage regular communication systems with students and families.
Be a visible presence in all areas of the school and a point of contact for families and faculty
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education or related field is required. Master’s degree or is preferred.
Three to five years of teaching experience or in a similar role.
Independent school leadership and teaching experience.
Knowledge and understanding of Special Needs students and adolescent development.
Proven success working collaboratively in educational leadership
A background check and drug screen are part of the hiring process.
