The Lovett School, an independent K-12 day school in Atlanta, GA, seeks a Lower School Homeroom Teacher to begin in August 2024. Interested applicants should be enthusiastic educators with a passion for teaching young children. Experience with Reading and Writing Workshop, Orton Gillingham, Understanding by Design, and Responsive Classroom will be preferred, as will a nuanced understanding of and interest in equity and inclusion. A master’s degree in Elementary Education is preferred, but not required.

Experience with Reading and Writing Workshop, Orton Gillingham, Understanding by Design, and Responsive Classroom will be preferred, as will a nuanced understanding of and interest in equity and inclusion. A master’s degree in Elementary Education is preferred, but not required.

Primary Responsibilities:

Embrace and impart Lovett’s Core Values.
Cultivate a classroom culture that facilitates student voice, compassion for others, and a whole-child approach.
Develop curriculum and assessments and differentiate instruction.
Provide effective feedback for students and continually monitor student progress.
Collaborate with colleagues within and outside of the department and/or grade level on curriculum development.
Foster a positive parent-school partnership with Lovett families.
Communicate student progress to families through report cards, parent-teacher conferences, Seesaw, and other touchpoints as needed. 
Engage in faculty and team meetings and ongoing professional development during the school year and summer.
Mentor and support co-teacher in his/her professional growth.
Attend weekly chapel, Open House, faculty in-service days, parent-teacher conferences, designated school-sponsored events, and professional development days.
Fulfill other Lower School duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Knowledge of current best practices in education and a genuine enthusiasm for children
Willingness to be self-reflective, learn, and grow as a professional and individual 
Sense of joy and a positive approach to challenging situations
Flexibility and responsiveness to a variety of learning styles across a range of abilities
Ability to collaboratively engage with students, faculty, staff, and administration
Willingness to contribute to the school community beyond the classroom
Excellent written and verbal skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
Familiarity with technology, including SMARTboard and Google Suite
Commitment to developing one’s cultural self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence  
Ethical behavior, professionalism, and reliable attendance
Three years of classroom experience preferred
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
