Description:

The Lovett School, an independent K-12 day school in Atlanta, GA, seeks a Middle School English teacher to begin in August 2024.  Interested applicants should be able to teach English from grades 6-8. Experience with collaborative and interdisciplinary planning is preferred.

Reports to:  Middle School Division Head

Primary Responsibilities:
Develops curriculum materials including course outlines, syllabi, and other instructional materials
Carries out all responsibilities associated with teaching the assigned classes
Conducts after-school tutorials as scheduled
Participates in department, faculty, team, and grade-level meetings as called
Ensures that students adhere to The Lovett School behavioral guidelines
Is involved in the life of the school outside of the classroom
Serves as a grade-level advisor
Fulfills additional duties as assigned

Position Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field with significant English coursework; a master’s degree is preferred
At least three years of classroom experience leading, developing, and teaching curriculum
The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond the classroom
Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
Employment of a variety of techniques, including the meaningful use of technology, to engage students and further their critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity
A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a  growth mindset
Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals
Demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness to a variety of learning styles and across a range of abilities
Ethical behavior, professionalism, and respect for diversity
Regular and reliable attendance
