Summary

The Mount Vernon School seeks a dynamic and collaborative Upper Campus Counselor (Grades 6-12) for the 2020-21 school year. Candidates should have attained a degree in counseling; relevant experience is preferred. Versatility, collaboration, and strong communication skills are essential. Availability to sponsor athletic, artistic, or academic clubs is a plus.

Role & Responsibilities

Embodying the School’s mission and advancing the School’s vision
Planning and facilitating social-emotional learning experiences for students in Grades 6-12 before, during, and after school
Supporting students, teachers, and families of students who may have a variety of learning, behavior, and family profiles with observations, resources, interventions, strategies, and guidance
Communicating regularly and intentionally with students, families, outside specialists, and the academic team
Maintaining accurate and detailed confidential clinical records and documentation
Designing and facilitating learning experiences for parents and teachers that reflect the most relevant research in human development and the changing needs of our world
Contributing to School life beyond the classroom including Family Nights, arts and athletic events, graduation and overnight trips
Collaborating with school-wide Research, Design, and Iteration Teams, actively participating in school-wide collaborative care teams, and participating in regular, ongoing professional learning
Adhering to responsibilities such as carpool duty, lunch and recess supervisions, trip chaperoning, and other duties as assigned

Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field
Master’s Degree in Counseling
Licensure in the field of study
School counseling experience preferred
Full-time role; reports to Executive Director of Learning and Innovation
