Lower School Teaching Assistant
St. Martin’s Episcopal School is seeking a dependable, collaborative, and student-centered Teaching Assistant to support classroom instruction in the Lower School. This full-time role plays a vital part in assisting Lead Teachers with daily instruction, classroom operations, and student supervision, helping to ensure a consistent, nurturing, and well-structured learning environment.
Position Overview
Teaching Assistants support Lead Teachers in creating nurturing, structured, and engaging learning environments for students in grades K–4. This role involves instructional support, classroom operations, student supervision, and active participation in the life of the school.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting classroom instruction and student learning
Assisting with daily classroom routines and organization
Supervising students during transitions, lunch, recess, and field trips
Collaborating closely with Lead Teachers and Lower School staff
Supporting school events, chapel services, and meetings
Qualifications:
High-School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience working with Lower School–aged children
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Work Schedule and Position Status
The role is a 10-month position that follows the school’s academic calendar. The position is paid over a 12-month period and includes typical daily working hours of Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. during the academic year. The position joins our faculty as a full-time and benefits-eligible employee. The role is salaried and non-exempt per FLSA guidelines.
Physical Requirements
This position is performed both indoors and outdoors, with noise levels ranging from soft to loud. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, talk, and hear for extended periods. The role requires frequent use of hands and arms to handle materials and equipment and occasional lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds. The employee must be able to move freely around the classroom and campus and supervise students on the playground.
