Early Childhood and Lower School Literacy Teacher
Job Title: EC/LS Literacy Teacher Date: February 2025
Status: Full-time/Exempt Reports to: Director of Student Support Services
Summary
The EC/LS Reading teacher is responsible for the academic, social-emotional growth and development of all children in their care and works collegially with other faculty and staff of St. Martin’s Episcopal School.
The EC/LS Literacy Teacher motivates and helps children develop their phonemic awareness, letter knowledge, and concepts of print, decoding, fluent reading, vocabulary, text comprehension, written expression, spelling, and handwriting skills.
Essential Functions
Implements age-appropriate curriculum (lesson plan) and follows curriculum implementation that addresses the individual needs of each child.
Teaches all Beginners and PreK students in the co-curricular rotation, year-long.
Teaches small groups, primarily focusing on Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students identified as benefiting from additional support.
Utilizes supplemental classroom resources to support instruction.
Perform ongoing developmental evaluations and benchmark assessments to monitor progress
Works in coordination with EC, LS teachers, and administration, including the EC/LS Director of Teaching and Learning and Director of Student Support Services.
Participate in ongoing in-service and educational professional development opportunities.
Participate in grade-level meetings, student support meetings, conference days, and maintain student records.
Must be able to manage confidential information.
Participates actively with other faculty and staff, including committees and duties such as carpool duty, lunch duty, field trips, and early morning duties.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Head of School, Principals, and/or Student Support Services Director.

Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s Degree is required with relevant experience teaching young children (ages 3-7)
Minimum 30 hours (Classroom Educator) Orton-Gillingham training required
Early Child Development knowledge and teaching experience required.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of teaching experience required.
Physical Requirements
This job is performed inside; the noise level can be soft to loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee must use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee will be physically moving and exercising with the students throughout the day.

Schedule and FLSA Status
Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 3:45 pm on all days that school is in session and follows the typical school calendar. The position is Exempt. The position is benefits eligible.
