This position is for a proactive, deeply engaged person eager to connect in a vibrant, dynamic school community where special education and elementary education expertise will be crucial. The nature of this role requires a physical presence in classrooms, the capability to deliver small-group instruction, and collaboration with teachers. Establishing connections with individual students is integral to the work, fostering self-awareness, promoting self-advocacy, and developing personalized strategies to optimize their learning. A Master’s degree is required, experience in teaching students with diverse learning needs, proficiency in curriculum-based measurement, and the ability to analyze data for informed instruction. Excellent communication skills are essential for positive interaction with students, parents, faculty, and staff. The Academic Support Teacher will receive support and guidance from Learning Strategists, the Director of Teaching and Learning, and the Head of the Lower School.

Supervisor: Head of Lower School
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Position Status: Salaried, exempt, full-time, 10-month
Work Hours: Typical hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some weekend and evening work may be required.
Anticipated Start Date: August 1, 2025
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for a successful candidate.
Degree in special education, speech-language pathology, or elementary education; Master’s degree required.
Prior experience as a learning specialist or in special education, focusing on teaching twice-exceptional students, students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and neurodiverse learners.
In-depth knowledge of the efficacy of various curriculums to complement and enhance learning in the classroom in both literacy and math
Knowledge and comfort in various co-teaching models for whole group instruction and differentiation of instruction to leverage strategies to support student needs
Experience and knowledge in serving students and guiding teachers through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports
Expertise and experience in administering curriculum-based measurement to inform instruction, especially when working with small groups and within a classroom setting.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Works in partnership with Learning Strategists, Academic Support Teaching team, and classroom teachers
Meets regularly and works collaboratively with the Lower School Learning Strategist(s) and Director(s) of Teaching and Learning
Serves as a classroom partner and facilitates problem-solving to support students
Develops detailed lesson objectives aligned with students' learning profiles to support literacy and math instruction pushed into classrooms for whole group and small group instruction
Leads individual and small group instruction for pre-first through fifth-grade students
Generates concrete action steps for individual students based on psychoeducational reports in collaboration with Learning Strategists
Attends and contributes to grade-level PLC meetings
Maintains knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices
Tailors and customizes lessons to meet the diverse needs of students
Maintains confidentiality and upholds student integrity
Communicates effectively with parents, students, and teachers
