Position Summary: This position involves teaching middle school social studies to students in grades 7 and 8, including Medieval History, United States History, and Government/Economics, as required.
Specific Duties Include:
Instructing students in subject content along with reading and grading student written work
Demonstrating a high level of responsiveness to students' needs including the implementation of differentiated teaching strategies
Managing student behavior in a manner that optimizes the learning environment
Maintain regular communication with students and their parents regarding progress
Working cooperatively with other grade-level teachers to implement pre-designed course syllabi, lessons, and final exam and term paper
All other duties as assigned
Required Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy
Ability to leverage technology, including but not limited to Google Apps Suite, Microsoft Office, Interactive Whiteboard, in a 1:1 iPad environment
A solid understanding of learning challenges as well as the accommodations and differentiated learning techniques to support such
Strong organizational and classroom management skills
Ability to instruct students in writing research papers utilizing the Chicago style, or a demonstrated willingness to learn and implement it
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in History or Education with an emphasis in history education from an accredited institution of higher learning
3+ years of successful teaching in middle school preferred
Independent school experience preferred, but not required
The Social Studies Teacher, Middle School position is a exempt, 10-month position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
