The Role
Mount Vernon School seeks an innovative and collaborative Upper School Humanities teacher with expertise in History. At Mount Vernon, Humanities instructors teach a series of courses that integrate Literature, History, and English Language Arts skills. Versatility, collaboration, and openness to innovative instructional practices are essential. Availability to sponsor athletic, artistic, or academic teams/clubs is preferred.

Responsibilities
Provide meaningful instruction in Grades 9-12 Humanities using a variety of research-based and innovative teaching methods
Create well-planned nine-week units that connect students to the real-world learning opportunities
Create differentiated lessons to match the needs of each student in the classroom
Timely maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records of each student's performance and progress & communication with students/families pertaining to progress
Care and nurture for the social and emotional needs of each student
Maintenance of an organized, inviting, and student-centered learning environment
Participation in duties (e.g. lunch, enrichment and carpool) and others as assigned
Possess strong character with an absolute drive for excellence, a team-oriented spirit, and a commitment to meeting the learning and social-emotional needs of students
