Athens Academy is a co-educational, non-sectarian, independent college preparatory day school of approximately 900 students in grades K3-12 that offers a traditional liberal arts curriculum and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. The Upper School:
Athens Academy’s Upper School (grades 9-12) is committed to providing a high-quality education that prepares students to lead successful and productive lives not only in their future academic pursuits in colleges and universities across the nation but also in their adult lives. The curricular structure challenges each student individually, while our diverse extra-curricular offerings provide students with the opportunity to be involved in activities in which they are interested. Talented and tireless teachers enable us to produce young men and women capable of handling the 21st-century demands and challenges they will inevitably face. The Upper School is composed of approximately 300 students and supported by 60 teachers and support staff.
The Position:
Athens Academy seeks a full-time, dynamic, creative, and versatile Upper School Humanities teacher beginning in August 2026. Essential characteristics include love of emerging adults, energy, optimism, flexibility, the ability to work with others, a good sense of humor, and a firm foundation in humanities education. Teaching assignments will include AP Government, in addition to other courses in history. We are looking for someone who is excited to join our community and who enjoys and understands adolescent learners. Teachers at Athens Academy convey a love of learning and instill in our students a curiosity about our world and the desire to apply what they learn to other disciplines and the world around them. Athens Academy’s faculty are also engaged with students beyond the classroom, including coaching and other extracurricular activities.
Other Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in political science, history, or a related education field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
At least three years of teaching experience in upper-level history courses required.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
