Upper School:
Athens Academy’s Upper School (grades 9-12) is committed to providing a high-quality education that prepares students to lead successful and productive lives not only in their future academic pursuits in colleges and universities across the nation but also in their adult lives. The curricular structure challenges each student individually, while our diverse extra-curricular offerings provide students the opportunity to be involved in activities in which they are interested. Talented and tireless teachers enable us to produce young men and women capable of handling the 21st-century demands and challenges they will inevitably face.
The Position:
Athens Academy seeks a full or part-time, dynamic, creative, and versatile Upper School science teacher beginning in August 2025. Essential characteristics include love of emerging adults, energy, optimism, flexibility, the ability to work with others, a good sense of humor, and a firm foundation in science education. We are looking for someone who is excited to become a part of our community and who enjoys and understands the adolescent learner. Teachers at Athens Academy convey a love of learning and instill in our students a curiosity about our world and the desire to apply what they learn to other disciplines and the world around them. The ideal full-time candidate would be able to teach Physics (CP, Honors, and AP Physics C), as well as an additional elective based on expertise and departmental needs. Additionally, the ideal full-time candidate will serve as an academic advisor to students and will participate in school life beyond the classroom, which may include coaching an athletic or academic team, sponsoring a club, or other extracurricular activities. Part-time applicants for teaching AP Physics C will be considered.
Other Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related science education field (Master’s or Ph.D.
preferred).
At least three years of teaching experience in upper-level science courses required. Experience
teaching AP Physics C preferred.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
A commitment to fostering student enthusiasm for science while maintaining high academic standards.
