The teacher will provide opportunities for maximum student development and growth through developmentally appropriate learning experiences. The teacher will design and implement a wide variety of instructional strategies that will accommodate various abilities and skills in accordance with the school curriculum. This is a part-time position teaching academic classes and an Advisory. After-school opportunities are available.
Responsibilities
Design coursework that includes multi-sensory, project-based, student initiative-driven units and labs, incorporates hands-on learning and creative approaches. There are no textbooks.
Track student performance; evaluate programs and student progress (conferences, written evaluation, and written daily correspondence) with a variety of data points.
Effectively adapt teaching methods, instructional materials, and learning opportunities to meet students' varying needs and interests.
Instruct and encourage individual students; establish goals for individualized students and small groups.
Implement and model the school’s social curriculum (Levels System/Community Structure) with a strong emphasis on community.
Assess student progress through observations, assignments, and assessments, and communicate and collaborate with parents, peers, counselors, and administrators regarding students' progress.
Maintain accurate, up to date, and complete student records.
Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
Participate in student extra-curricular activities, such as sponsorship of clubs, involvement in after-school student activities, and chaperoning a minimum of one evening student event.
Manage the class and ensure engagement and discipline.
Attending all staff meetings and serving on committees as required.
Select, store, issue, and inventory equipment, materials, and supplies.
Additional duties as assigned by the administration.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Bachelor’s degree (preferably a Masters); a minimum of 3 years teaching experience in Spanish.
Special Education degree or endorsement preferred.
Experience teaching students with learning disabilities and an understanding of different learning styles and skill levels.
Highly creative, flexible, innovative teaching style that engages all types of learners.
Must be a team player and able to build positive working relationships with colleagues.
Ability to develop positive rapport with students.
Superior communication skills (both written and oral) and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals regularly.
Demonstrate computer literacy and proficiency (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, email, Internet, presentation software, and online grade book programs). Experience with Smart Board and FACTS (Ren Web or another learning management system) technology; must have a working knowledge of Google Classroom and its applications (Documents, Slides, Sites, etc.).
Communicate effectively and timely with students, parents, faculty, and administrators.
Develop and implement ongoing lesson plans centered on the student culture and experience.
Counsel and discipline students, offer mediation, and many points of contact to advance the student’s and community’s well-being.
Supervise and assist both teachers and students in cases of disciplinary difficulties.
Maintain appropriate documentation and records.
Enforce the dress code policy with the assistance of faculty and staff.
Maintain high visibility during the school day and give support to faculty who are supervising activities.
Nurture and monitor student progress – academic, social, emotional, and behavior.
Call and attend Support Team meetings for school-identified struggling students.
Advise students and families on the next steps in their schooling and development, connecting them with internal and external resources.
Partner with learning specialists and school counselors to care for the students.
Chaperone and enjoy the annual education trips with students.
Engage informally with students and faculty at snack and lunch times.
Communicate the desired outcome of student commitment over compliance with implementation of code of conduct, uniform policy, and enforcing of handbook.

Essential Functions:
Instructing — Teaching others how to do something.
Establish and enforce expectations for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible in-keeping with the school’s mission.
Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
Assign and grade classwork and homework in a timely fashion.
Use supplied curriculum materials and other resources.
Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
Conduct parent/ guardian conferences as needed.
Attending division and school-wide faculty meetings.
Attending Professional development training as directed by the supervisor.

Work Environment:
This job is performed inside, the noise level can be soft to loud. Work for this position will take place primarily in a classroom. While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be required to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, walk, talk, read, and hear. The employee could be required to use hands to write, type, finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and /or move up to 25 pounds.
